The McConnell’s Ice Cream & Yogurt scoop shop on Mission and De La Vina in Santa Barbara has changed its name to Mission Street Ice Cream & Yogurt. But everything else is the same. The shop continues to be independently owned and operated by Bob and Jean Moss, as it has for the past eleven years, and it has the same employees, the same high-quality McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams - perennially voted among the top five in the nation by a host of prestigious publications - and the same freshly made yogurts that have been sold here for over thirty years. For most of that time, the Mission Street store has been the only one in Santa Barbara to serve a full range of McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams. With thirty flavors on the menu, and new ones arriving frequently, it’s no wonder loyal locals and excited visitors continue to pack the store. The yogurts, which are all made in house, include a variety of types and styles, from low-calorie and dairy-free whey protein, to custards, sorbets, Greek styles, tart options, and vegan choices. Some forty fruit and candy toppings, plus hot fudge, are available to take them to the next level. This is one instance in which, happily, the more things change, the more they really do stay the same.
