Jane

Jane, the popular nine-year-old Santa Barbara restaurant, has a new sibling. Located in a park-like corner of The Marketplace in Goleta, Jane seems miles from a shopping center. It’s airy and light, with two indoor dining rooms (one also hosts private events), a central bar and a large, shaded, glass-enclosed, dog-friendly patio. Like its downtown sister, the new Jane is open for lunch and dinner and offers a diverse, something-for-everyone menu of appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, entrées and fabulous homemade desserts. From an appetizer of grilled pasilla chilies with Swiss cheese, cilantro and tomato vinaigrette to veal scallopini, fabulous fresh fish, excellent filet mignon (for under $30), capellini with mussels, pizzas from a wood-burning oven, some of the best burgers in town and their famous coconut cake, Jane II offers sophisticated, accessible, unfussy fare in a setting that is at once refined, casual and super-friendly. As at the original, the focus at this family-owned restaurant is on making everything in-house fresh daily using the best available ingredients. That goes for soups and sauces, salad dressings, spreads (including their own mayo), French fries, lamb sausage - even the sesame-seed hamburger buns. With a variety of California craft brews available on tap or by the bottle and a good selection of area wines, Jane is poised for the best kind of sibling rivalry.
