436 STATE STREET
Santa Barbara, CA 93101
20 years is a long time in the restaurant business, and during the two decades that Bucatini has occupied the busy corner at State and Haley Streets in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, the popular trattoria/pizzeria with the intimate dining room and the big covered patio has become a “stand-by” in the best sense of the word. Bucatini is reliable, comfortable, welcoming and reasonably priced. It offers friendly, caring service and regional Italian food - the classics - made with the freshest, often organic, ingredients and featuring produce and herbs plucked from two weekly farmer’s markets - one outside its front door, the other a block away. Since it doesn’t follow trends, except in terms of reflecting demand for more organic, gluten-free and vegetarian options, Bucatini’s customers know what they’ll get. Whether antipasti (carpaccio with mustard-horseradish dressing; local mussels in spicy marinara broth) a pasta (from the list of more than twenty) risotto, panini, grilled fish or chicken, lamb chops with rosemary and garlic, veal scaloppini with mushrooms, or one of 21 wood-fired thin-crust pizzas, the promise is always the same: what you get will be fresh, flavorful and good. The small but mighty bar offers a variety of custom cocktails, and the wine list is a tasteful balance of Italian and California selections.
